Following Jesus requires more than good intentions—it requires intentional preparation. Just like athletes train before game day, Paul tells believers to train themselves for godliness. Life gets busy, distractions pile up, and before long the things that matter most can receive whatever attention we have left. Through John the Baptist’s call to “prepare the way” and Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness, we see the importance of clearing distractions, knowing God’s Word, and building spiritual habits before pressure comes. Jesus answered temptation with Scripture that was already within Him, reminding us that what we build in private will show up under pressure. For forty days, Church in the Country is getting back to the fundamentals: God’s Word, prayer, serving, showing up, and living generously. This isn’t about earning salvation or checking boxes—it’s about fixing our eyes on Jesus and becoming prepared for whatever comes next.
